Measure Hunt is a 2d, touch enabled game geared towards children on the 3rd grade academic level. Stylistically the game is cartoon-like with simple premise to engage the targeted players. The overall goal is to teach children how to use and recognize units of measurement and fractions thereof.
The game's learning goals and expected outcomes are based on the Georgia Standard MCC3.MD.4:
Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units— whole numbers, halves, or quarters.
Game play consists of levels, with each level being conquered by using a ruler with graduated markings and asking the player to mark coordinates on the screen. Winning the level will require the goal to met in a certian amount of time by accurately marking a set number of points.
Each level conquered will earn the player a badge and the chance to advance to the next level. Each successive layer will utilize a higher level of precision in the ruler and points, Level one will use 1/2's , level two 1/4's & 1/2's, etc...
Units of measurement are not defined and are considered arbitrary. This excercise is about teaching the player to recognize the divisions of a unit and how to use them.
